Wow - this has been a long (over 2 years) and convoluted story - but this headline from the NY Times today is pretty horrible, "Life Requested for U.S. Student in Italy":

PERUGIA, Italy (AP) — Prosecutors on Saturday asked an Italian court to hand down life sentences to an American student and her former boyfriend for their alleged roles in the fatal stabbing of a young British woman during a sex game gone awry.

In their closing arguments, prosecutors said the student, Amanda Knox, and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, should be convicted on charges of murder and sexual violence for the 2007 slaying of the British woman, Meredith Kercher.

There is more about the case here.
